This Course has a philosophy
of being “Learner-centred”: we aim to run this
Course with the learners needs at its core. Who is “We”?
The Course is run by all of its members – that means
mainly you, the specialist trainees.
The Course runs as 2 parallel groups
on Thursday morning and afternoon. We try to run to time and
good timekeeping is appreciated by all. Trainees are responsible
for running 1-2 sessions per term, usually in trios. The details
of these sessions are worked out at the planning sessions
which occur at the start of each term. the autumn and summer
terms these are on the residentials, a 36 hour course that
is essential for the structure of the term to come. SHOs need
to apply for study leave as soon as they start their job (or
before if already on the scheme) and Registrars need to inform
their Practice of the dates. Details of the Course should
be available when you start the post – if in doubt contact
Carole Gerrard.
The half-day release takes place at
Telford Education Centre and the Shropshire Education &
Conference Centre, RSH North. A programme will be available
shortly after the start of the term – please refer to
this. Some sessions may be at different locations and once
a term you will be free to arrange an outside visit perhaps
to a Practice (a good way to see potential Training Practices).
The Course Handbook aims to give you
the essential information you need at the start of the Course.
You will find out much more as time passes and your fellow
trainees are probably the biggest fund of useful ( ?) information
. If in doubt – Ask!
