Rules for Feedback

Feedback.

1. Giving it.

  • It should be expected , wanted and delivered at
    an appropriate time..and place.
  • It should be given with positive intent for the recipient.
  • It must be specific.." what have they actually done ?"
  • Be honest ; don't beat about the bush.
  • Refer to the behaviour and not the person, and refer to behaviour
    that can be changed.
  • Invite the recipient to find their own solutions but offer options too.
  • Describe events rather than make judgements.
  • Own the feedback and think what it says about you.
  • Be prepared for their reaction !
  • Be prepared to offer help and support.

2. Receiving it.

  • Listen rather than react or interrupt/defend.
  • Be clear about what is being said.
  • Check it with others if needed.
  • Ask for feedback if you don't get it.
  • Decide what you will do as a result.
